The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government has created a scheme to develop young artistic talent through a regional scholarship program.

Deputy Premier and Minister for the Arts Troy Grant said the NSW Young Regional Artist Scholarships will foster the next generation of artists and arts professionals living in regional NSW.

“The program will run over four years and offer 25 scholarships a year valued at $10,000 each to young people aged between 18-25 years old based in regional NSW,” Mr Grant said, and added that the program is available to artists, performers and arts workers across all art forms, including dance, design, digital arts, history, Aboriginal arts, literature, music, theatre, screen and the visual arts.

“There is fantastic artistic talent across our State and the NSW Government is making it easier for youth in regional areas to connect to arts organisations and training opportunities to nurture their skills and future careers. The scholarships will fund activities including mentorships or internships, residencies, short-term courses and workshops, travel and the creation of new work,” he said.

Applications are open until 11 June 2015.

For the purpose of this Scholarship, Regional NSW is defined as Local Government (Council) Areas (LGAs) outside the metropolitan and metropolitan fringe of Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong. For more information or to apply for a NSW Young Regional Artists Scholarship, visit: www.arts.nsw.gov.au
