Jasvinder Sidhu, an active member of the Indian community, was recently appointed adviser to Daniel Andrews, the Leader of the Victorian Opposition.
Mr Sidhu has worked with the Indian community for over seven years after migrating to Australia as a student in 2005.
With eight years of university teaching experience and a double Master’s Degree from RMIT University, Mr Singh has presented research findings at conferences across Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific.
As an adviser to the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Sidhu will be an influential voice for the Indian community as the Victorian State Election approaches on November 29, 2014.
Following the appointment, Daniel Andrews said: “Jasvinder Sidhu is a strong voice for the Indian community and I’m proud to take his advice.”
“Labor is a great friend of the Indian community – its values and its contribution have made Victoria a better place.
“I look forward to working with JasvinderSidhu, Cranbourne MP Jude Perera and other members of my team to make our friendship with the community even stronger.”
Jasvinder Sidhu serves on boards of many community associations, is a regular commentator on ethnic Indian radio stations and writes for Indian newspapers.
Sidhu’s major community projects include support programs for isolated migrant elders, refugees and victims of domestic violence, and breakfasts for school children.
