In the last few years, Kapil Sharma has grown into one of the finest stand up comics in India

A comedian by choice, but a charmer by fate, Kapil Sharma is one human being, who can easily convert the most tense situations into something funny. A name synonym to comedy, Kapil has shown his prowess in the field and has made a mark for himself as the country’s finest stand-up comedian.

However reaching a level that many only dream of reaching wasn’t easy for the talented actor. He had to face share of ifs and don’ts before finally achieving something this big. We take you on a tour to Kapil’s life, his childhood and his first step on national TV.

Early days:

Born a day after the ‘fool’s day’, i.e. 2 April 1981, Kapil hails from Amritsar, Punjab. Born to a police officer father and a housewife mother, nobody had guessed what Kapil would ultimately turn out to be in the future. It was only during the first year of his graduation, that the comedian took the first step towards his dream. As a first year student in Hindu College, Amritsar, he joined the college’s theatre group and seldom came out with flying colors. He took many awards in college festivals. He continued to study and enrolled for a post-graduate degree in Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar.

Journey as a comedian:

Kapil Sharma, who has suddenly become the country’s favourite, started his career in the industry by participating in a comedy reality show Ustaadon Ka Ustaad in 2008. Here the contestants of comedy show, Comedy Circus performed against those from Great Indian Laughter Challenge. He then went on to co-host comedy show Chhote Miyan in the same year with TV actress Juhi Parmar and Great Indian Laughter Challenge Season IV with Chandan Prabhakar. It was here that is stand-up comedy characters, Lala Roshan Lal and Shamsher Singh became extremely popular.

In the year 2009, Kapil joined the comedy reality show Hans Baliye, as a wild card entry, along with Bavneet Chatrath (famously known as Ginni) as a partner. He was then seen co hosting the first Punjabi International Film Awards in Toronto in 2012. All this was just the start, as his real journey as a comedian started after he won Comedy Circus Ke Taansen and Comedy Circus Ka Naya Daur alongside Shweta Tiwari. Kapil was also declared the winner of Kahani Comedy Circus Ki.

The comedian was recently seen hosting the TV reality dance show, Jhalak Dikhlaja along with anchor Manish Paul.

Journey as one of the greatest comedian and producer:

Many Indian families have been spending their weekend dinners in front of TV sets, thanks to Kapil and his show “Comedy Nights with Kapil”. The show has proven to be is the biggest milestone of his career till date. The show has earned a lot of appreciation and is also the most seen TV reality show today, according to recent TVTs. Kapil, along with his team members including Ali Asgar, Upasana Singh, Sunil Grover, Kiku Sharda, Sumona Chakravarti and others act out skits on stage and simultaneously interact with members in the audience and permanent guest Navjot Singh Siddhu.

Each episode’s second half features a celebrity guest who appears to promote his/her latest film or TV series. Unlike any other reality show in the past, superstar Shah Rukh Khan has visited the sets of the Comedy Nights With Kapil twice.

Kapil is also the producer the show, under his recently started production house, k9 Productions, with the mutual consent of Vipul D Shah.

Acting career:
Kapil Sharma is a man of versatile talents. Apart from working as a comedian and producer, Kapil has also tried his hands in acting by working in theatres. Speaking of his career as an actor, Kapil had said, “People noticed me when I came in Laughter Challenge seven years ago, but nobody is aware of the work that I did in theatre. People usually feel that I am an overnight star, but this is not true. Whatever I am today is because of my hard work and struggle. I did serious theatre, I also did comedy plays without taking any money and those days have made me a better person.”
Kapil has now been signed by Sohail Khan for his upcoming film Sher Khan.

Singing Career:
Kapil was also a contestant in Star Ya Rockstar (singing reality show), in which he reached up to the finals and came second. Kapil had ones said that his childhood dream was to become a singer first.

With a sense of humor so supreme and matchless, Kapil has come a long way and one just wishes for the actor to keep entertaining the world with his super crass, quick-witted and fanciful nature.
