Actor Hrithik Roshan underwent a successful brain surgery on Sunday to remove a clot that developed from “head injuries” suffered during shooting.

He was shifted to a suburban hospital in Mumbai after he experienced severe headache.

He was having a severe back and knee condition and was resting at home as he was getting spasms in his back.

He returned from a US holiday a week ago and had also launched the poster of his Krrish 3 in Hyderabad.

The actor was having the repeated episodes of nasty headaches for the last two months, his family said, but they failed to understand the reason behind it.

It was only revealed after the CT scan and MRI which were performed on Friday that he was suffering from subacute subdural haematoma.

Subacute Subdural Haematoma is a brain condition which normally is seen on those above 65. In this condition blood clots form between the surface of the brain and its tough covering called dura mater.

The 39 year old actor was later shifted to Hinduja Healthcare, late on Saturday after he started experiencing weakness in his right hand.

While the exact cause for his ailment is not known, it is being suggested that the clot is a result of some of the death-defying stunts that the actor has done in a couple of his recent films.

“He has been shooting many action sequences. Almost two months ago, he leaped from a height of 30 feet and sustained an injury while falling into a water body He started experiencing headaches soon after the incident. Till a month ago a CT scan did not show a clot,” said Dr B K Mishra, Hrithik’s doctor, consultant neurosurgeon.

“The actor was lucky that the clot was diagnosed just when it had started increasing. Brain clots have a tendency to draw fluids from the adjoining areas. Usually, it starts with water and then begins draining blood,” doctor explained.

It can be serious for the young if not treated on time.

The actor’s wife, Sussanne Roshan, who was overseas cut short her trip and flew to Mumbai in the wee hours of July 7.

The operation was scheduled for around 2 PM on Sunday as the Bollywood superstar was adamant that he would get wheeled into the operation theatre only after spending some time with his wife Sussanne and his two sons — Hrehaan and Hridhaan.

The minor procedure involved drilling a small hole in the skull and sucking the clot out. It lasted for an hour and a half, throughout which his family members were present at the hospital. After the operation, he was shifted to the ward.

The hospital authorities said the actor’s headache is now better and the hand function is normal too.

Dr Mishra observed that Hrithik will be discharged in three days, but will need at least a month’s rest.

Incidentally, the actor was scheduled to fly to Prague on Saturday night for a schedule of Bang Bang. However, all his shooting schedules may now be postponed by at least three-to-four weeks because of his surgery. He will not be in a condition to do action till such time as he recovers completely.

Hrithik’s family is overwhelmed by the response of fans and well-wishers and thanks all their friends for their love, support and prayers.

Before going for surgery, Hrithik had tweeted, “Minor brain surgery to remove blood clot” Should be rock n rolling by evening! U guys have a great day too! Supersonic!!”
