Kalina Koloff has been appointed as New South Wales’ new Small Business Commissioner, with the state government citing her experience across government, business and community sectors as key to the role.
Minister for Small Business Janelle Saffin announced the appointment, saying Ms Koloff brings a practical understanding of the challenges faced by small businesses.
“I am delighted to welcome Kalina Koloff as the new NSW Small Business Commissioner. Her extensive experience in both the public sector and as a business owner ensures she has the perspective needed to champion our state’s small business community,” Ms Saffin said.
Ms Koloff has more than 20 years’ experience across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. She has worked in strategy, stakeholder engagement and economic recovery, and most recently served as the NSW Cross-Border Commissioner. Her career also includes leading recovery programs following the Black Summer bushfires and negotiating cross-border agreements with neighbouring states and territories.
“I am looking forward to connecting with the breadth of small businesses across NSW and to working with them to highlight key challenges and resolve long-standing issues,” Ms Koloff said.

Ms Koloff will lead the commission’s efforts to address barriers faced by small enterprises and support policy development.
“Ms Koloff’s proven track record in business and working across all levels of government will be an incredible asset as we continue striving to reduce red tape and foster a more resilient business environment,” Ms Saffin said.
Ms Koloff has also owned and operated several small businesses in professional services, consulting and hospitality, experience the government says will inform her approach to the role.
“Small business is at the heart of the NSW economy and I am committed to supporting them to do what they do best, even in difficult and uncertain times,” Ms Koloff said.
Ms Koloff will begin her term on 25 May 2026. Ms Catherine Ellis, who has been serving as Acting Small Business Commissioner, will continue in the role until the new commissioner formally takes office.
