Homelessness and housing support services will remain available across Queensland throughout the Christmas and New Year period, with the Crisafulli Government urging people to reach out if they are struggling.

The government says demand for assistance often increases during the festive season, a time that can be isolating for people experiencing housing stress or homelessness. State-funded Specialist Homeless Services, the 24-hour Homelessness Hotline and 13 QGOV will continue operating over the holiday period to provide urgent support.

The announcement comes as the Crisafulli Government highlights what it describes as record investment in crisis accommodation and frontline homelessness services. The funding is aimed at ensuring people can access help when they need it, even while many other services slow down for the holidays.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Sam O’Connor said Christmas can be particularly difficult for those without a safe place to stay and that continuity of services is critical.

He said people should know they are not alone and that support remains available throughout the holiday break. He also acknowledged the work of frontline staff who will continue working over the period, supporting vulnerable Queenslanders when demand is often high.

Housing Service Centres will close from 4.30pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and reopen at 8.30am on Friday 2 January 2026. During that time, people needing urgent housing support can contact 13 QGOV. Those experiencing or at risk of homelessness can call the Homelessness Hotline on 1800 474 753.

Emergency social housing maintenance will remain available on 1800 808 107, while online services will continue through the Queensland Government website. Public housing tenants can also use the Tenant Assist Qld app to check rent balances and update contact details, while the Housing Assist Qld app provides access to bond loan information and other housing support.

Advocates have long argued that keeping services accessible during holiday periods is essential, as housing insecurity does not pause for public holidays. The government says it will continue to monitor demand over the coming weeks and encourages anyone in need to seek help early rather than wait until their situation worsens.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
