The CommBank Matildas will return to Adelaide this December for a clash with New Zealand at Coopers Stadium, rounding off their 2025 calendar in front of what is expected to be a passionate home crowd.

The 2 December fixture marks the second match in a two-game international series against the Football Ferns during the FIFA Women’s International Window. It also serves as the final opportunity for fans to see the team in action before they head into preparations for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026.

South Australian supporters have consistently turned out for the national side, most recently setting a record attendance of over 52,000 at Adelaide Oval in May last year. The December match will see international football return to Coopers Stadium for the first time since the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, and for the first time at the venue since the Matildas faced Chile there in 2019.

The match has been secured through a partnership between the South Australian Government, the South Australian Tourism Commission and Adelaide Venue Management. It continues the state’s push to bring major sporting events to local venues while supporting the growth of women’s sport.

Tourism Minister Zoe Bettison said welcoming the national side back to Adelaide was an exciting way to close the sporting year, particularly given the growing interest in women’s football following the 2023 World Cup.

“The Matildas have captured the hearts of Australians and their return to South Australia reflects the rise in women and girls playing football across the state,” she said.

Football Australia’s interim CEO, Heather Garriock, described Adelaide as a long-standing supporter base for the team and said the match was a valuable lead-in to the upcoming continental tournament.

“Playing in front of a home crowd against New Zealand is a great way to maintain momentum ahead of the Asian Cup,” Garriock said.

Coopers Stadium, operated by Adelaide Venue Management, is expected to host a strong crowd, with CEO Martin Radcliffe calling it a proud moment for the venue and state.

“Women’s football has never been more popular in South Australia and we’re ready to welcome fans and future Matildas to the stadium,” Radcliffe said.

Tickets go on sale to FA+ Members from 10am ACDT on Thursday 23 October, with general public sales opening at 2pm on Friday 24 October. Further ticketing details are available at matildas.com.au.
