Costco has teamed up with DoorDash to offer same-day delivery for non-members across Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane. Shoppers within an hour’s radius of a Costco store can now have groceries and household essentials delivered to their doorstep without a membership.
Simon Rossi, DoorDash’s Vice President for the Asia-Pacific region, said the partnership makes sense at a time when Australians are stretched for time and mindful of their spending. He pointed out that the service offers both convenience and access to Costco’s bulk-buy savings.
Costco members will still have access to exclusive deals and promotions, but this expansion opens the door for those who might not have previously shopped with the retailer. To mark the launch, customers spending $150 or more will receive $20 off their first order via DoorDash.
This move is part of a broader shift in retail, where large-format stores are adapting to changing shopping habits. Partnering with delivery platforms allows companies like Costco to widen their reach without requiring customers to visit physical stores.
There are still questions about delivery fees, stock availability and the environmental impact of increased home deliveries. Retailers offering such services will need to balance convenience with sustainable practices to keep customers engaged.
For time-poor households and small businesses, the partnership adds another option to the mix. Whether it’s bulk snacks for a growing family or office supplies for a small business, getting Costco’s big boxes delivered could be a game-changer.
