Victorian twins Khushnoor and Sukhnoor Rangi reached new heights in the athletics world during the 2024 Chemist Warehouse Australian All Schools Athletics Championships, held from 6 to 8 December at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre in Brisbane. The sisters captured first and second places in the Under 18 Girls’ Pole Vault, with Khushnoor equalling the championship record at 4.05 metres and narrowly surpassing Sukhnoor’s impressive 3.95 metres.
Their latest triumph builds on an already glittering track record. Earlier this year, the sisters dominated the Australian Athletics Championships in Adelaide. Sukhnoor took gold with a personal best of 3.75 metres, while Khushnoor claimed silver with 3.65 metres. Sukhnoor also competed in the Under 20 category, earning silver with a vault of 3.70 metres.
June saw the pair shine on the international stage, as they secured gold and silver in the Under 18 Pole Vault at the Oceania Athletics Championships in Suva, Fiji. Their consistency and success across national and regional competitions highlight their dominance in the sport.
Students at Melbourne’s Maribyrnong Sports Academy, the sisters are known for their disciplined approach to training. Their weekly routine includes three gym sessions and regular competitions, all while balancing their academic responsibilities. Besides pole vaulting, they participate in cricket and javelin, showcasing their diverse athletic skills.

The Rangi family has played a central role in the twins’ journey. Parents Manpreet Kaur and Navdeep Singh Rangi, who migrated from Punjab, India, have provided steadfast support. Navdeep expressed pride in their accomplishments, while Manpreet reflected on the sacrifices involved, including stepping back from her own career to prioritise the twins’ training.
Within the Indian-Australian community, the Rangi sisters have become symbols of dedication and perseverance. Their achievements inspire young athletes, showing what can be accomplished through hard work and family support.
Looking to the future, the twins aim to break the national pole vault record for their age group, currently set at 4.30 metres. They are also preparing for international competitions, with hopes of representing Australia on a global stage.
The demands of pole vaulting require not just physical strength but mental toughness. Managing training, school, and personal commitments is no small feat, yet the twins excel, crediting their success to discipline, family encouragement, and an enduring love for the sport.
As Khushnoor and Sukhnoor continue to set new benchmarks, their journey serves as a beacon for aspiring athletes, proving that dedication and support can help overcome any hurdle.
