Forest Lake shimmered with vibrant colours and heartfelt cheer as the Tamil Association of Queensland (TAQ) hosted an unforgettable Diwali celebration last Sunday. The event, a testament to the rich traditions of Tamil culture, drew an enthusiastic crowd eager to immerse themselves in the joyous festival of lights.
Guests were treated to an enchanting array of cultural performances, including classical Tamil music, intricate dance routines, and traditional attire that showcased the community’s artistic heritage. The evening was further enlivened by the mouthwatering aromas of Tamil cuisine, offering attendees a delightful taste of India.
The venue was adorned with colourful decorations, creating a warm and festive atmosphere that symbolised the essence of Diwali—victory of light over darkness and good over evil. Mayor Teresa Harding, in a heartfelt message shared on social media, expressed her gratitude and admiration for the event.
“Last Sunday night, the Tamil Association of Queensland (TAQ) celebrated Diwali in Forest Lake, showcasing the rich tradition of Tamil culture, music, dance, cuisine, and traditional attire,” Mayor Harding wrote. “It was a wonderful night, and I want to thank TAQ for their hospitality and for promoting harmony, inclusion, and multiculturalism.”
The celebration also saw participation from the Federation of Indian Communities of Queensland (FICQ). In their post-event reflections, FICQ highlighted the vibrant energy and sense of unity that defined the evening.
“The FICQ committee had the pleasure of attending the vibrant Diwali celebration organised by the Tamil Association Queensland (TAQ). During the event, the FICQ President shared heartfelt messages of unity and joy,” the organisation stated. “This outstanding Diwali gathering showcased a rich array of cultural performances, highlighting the diverse talents within the community.”
Esteemed guests and community members alike contributed to the sense of camaraderie and inclusivity that marked the celebration. The Tamil Association of Queensland once again proved its dedication to preserving and sharing Tamil heritage, while fostering a spirit of multicultural harmony.
The night ended with smiles, laughter, and a shared sense of pride in the cultural diversity that makes Queensland a shining example of inclusivity. As the lights dimmed on this year’s celebration, attendees left with memories to cherish and a deeper appreciation for the cultural richness of the Tamil community.
