Brisbane’s iconic Diwali Festival 2024 was given a magnificent start as Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner hosted a prestigious Civic Reception, recognising the vibrant Indian community and its invaluable contributions to the city’s multicultural landscape.
The Federation of Indian Communities of Queensland (FICQ) committee had the distinguished honour of attending the reception, marking a proud moment for its members. The event served as a testament to the enduring partnership between the Brisbane City Council and FICQ in promoting cultural harmony and inclusion.
In a gracious acknowledgment, the FICQ committee shared their appreciation for the Lord Mayor’s unwavering support. “It was truly a privilege to be part of such a respectful gathering and a proud moment for the current committee to be recognised for its contributions and achievements. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Lord Mayor and their dedicated staff for their support throughout this journey over the years,” FICQ stated.
The reception highlighted Brisbane’s commitment to celebrating diversity and fostering unity among its communities. Lord Mayor Schrinner, a steadfast advocate for multicultural initiatives, applauded the Indian community for enriching the cultural fabric of the city through festivals like Diwali.
As the evening unfolded, attendees reflected on the significance of Diwali as a global celebration of light triumphing over darkness and good over evil. The Lord Mayor emphasised the importance of cultural events in building bridges between communities and enhancing mutual understanding.
The reception also served as a platform for discussing future collaborations. FICQ expressed its enthusiasm for strengthening its partnership with the Council. “We look forward to further collaboration and the opportunity to bring more programs to the wider community together,” the committee affirmed.
This year’s Civic Reception underscored the vital role civic leadership plays in championing multiculturalism. The gathering resonated with unity, pride, and a shared vision of a brighter, inclusive future.
As the city gears up for the grand Diwali Festival, this elegant reception serves as a reminder of the profound impact cultural celebrations have in fostering connection and community spirit across Brisbane.
