Nominations have opened for the 2025 Northern Territory Sports Awards, inviting the community to spotlight local athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers whose contributions lit up 2024. From iconic names to grassroots heroes, these awards champion both the high achievers on the field and the dedicated individuals working behind the scenes.
Jinson Charls, Minister for People, Sport and Culture, expressed the profound impact of these awards on the Territory’s sporting spirit. “The NT Sports Awards celebrate the talent and dedication within our sports community and inspire the next wave of Territory athletes,” he said.
While past winners have included Olympians and Commonwealth Games champions, these awards shine a light on everyone who strengthens the local sports landscape, including those who volunteer, coach, and officiate. Mr. Charls reflected on the role of sport in Territory life: “Sport brings us together and builds community connections, which is why it’s essential to recognise both the on-field stars and those who fuel our clubs and organisations.”
This year’s awards include nine categories open for public nomination:
- Sportsperson of the Year
- Junior Sportsperson of the Year
- Masters Sportsperson of the Year
- Team of the Year
- Coach of the Year
- Official of the Year
- Volunteer of the Year
- Local Performance of the Year
- Karen Schneider Sports Medicine Australia Safer Sport Award
Beyond these categories, special recognition awaits in the Hall of Champions, Roll of Honour, and the Steve Abala Role Model Award. Nominations close on 15 January 2025, with more details available at ntsportsawards.nt.gov.au.
The NT Sports Awards aim to honour all those who contribute to the Territory’s vibrant sports culture, celebrating the camaraderie, effort, and passion that keep the community united through sport.

Dear Reader,The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.
Thank you for your support.
Best wishes,
