After a year of extensive planning and testing, Lions Outback Vision emerged victorious from a competitive field of 93 applicants, including 10 finalists. Their winning project features Australia’s first mobile retinal camera, which integrates advanced artificial intelligence to screen for serious eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and cataracts. This technology stands to revolutionise eye care for residents in remote areas who may struggle to access traditional healthcare services.
Deploying this AI-powered camera across the Pilbara has been a game changer. It allows for early detection and treatment of eye conditions that previously required patients to travel long distances to urban centres for diagnosis.
