Indian cricket sensation Smriti Mandhana has officially joined the Adelaide Strikers for the upcoming WBBL|10 season, a move that underscores the Strikers’ determination to maintain their dominance as they aim for a third consecutive WBBL title.

Mandhana, a left-handed batter renowned for her elegant stroke play, has previously featured in three WBBL seasons with Brisbane Heat, Hobart Hurricanes, and Sydney Thunder. Her remarkable performance in WBBL|07, where she smashed an unbeaten 114 off 64 balls against the Melbourne Renegades, remains one of her standout innings. With a strike rate of 130, Mandhana’s inclusion is set to strengthen the Strikers’ batting lineup, adding both flair and firepower.

With two ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year awards to her name, a feat she shares only with Australia’s Ellyse Perry, Mandhana’s credentials in the cricketing world are indisputable. Her recent triumph as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 further cements her status as one of the sport’s leading figures.

Expressing her excitement about joining the Strikers, Mandhana said, “I always look forward to playing in Australia, and I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute to a team with a history of success like the Strikers.”

Mandhana is also eager to reunite with Strikers coach Luke Williams, with whom she has a strong rapport. The pair has previously collaborated at Southern Brave in The Hundred, and Williams has expressed his enthusiasm about their continued partnership.

“Smriti is an exceptional talent, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Strikers. Her technical skill, experience, and strategic insights are a tremendous asset for us,” said Williams. “I know firsthand the dedication and energy she brings to the team and on the field. Her expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we drive for success in the upcoming season.”

In another strategic move, the Strikers have agreed to a pick trade with Melbourne Renegades ahead of Sunday’s WBBL|10 Draft. The Strikers traded picks 19 and 30 to the Renegades in exchange for picks 22 and 27.

The WBBL|10 Draft is set to take place on Sunday, 1 September, with live coverage across The Seven Network, 7plus, Fox Sports, and Kayo Sports. The Adelaide Strikers will kick off their season by hosting the Brisbane Heat at Adelaide Oval on October 27, setting the stage for what promises to be another thrilling WBBL campaign.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.
