In the lead-up to the eagerly awaited Boxing Day Test, the Pakistan cricket team is poised for an early arrival in Melbourne, marking the beginning of their preparations. The team’s journey to Australia commences with their touchdown in the city on 19 December, setting the stage for what promises to be a captivating encounter in the world of cricket.

After allowing themselves a day of acclimatisation on the 20th, the Pakistani contingent is gearing up for a unique engagement with their fans. An open training session scheduled for Thursday presents a rare opportunity for cricket enthusiasts. This session is not just a chance to see the players hone their skills but also a moment for fans to connect with their heroes in a more personal setting.

The significance of this training session extends beyond its spectator appeal. It serves as a crucial part of Pakistan’s strategy to acclimatise and refine their tactics. The session is a prelude to a more formal two-day practice match against the Victorian XI at Junction Oval, St. Kilda. This encounter is more than just a warm-up; it’s a critical part of the team’s preparation, offering them a chance to adjust to local conditions and fine-tune their strategies before the main event.

As the Pakistani team takes a brief respite on 24 December, they prepare to reconvene for a final training session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Christmas Day. This training will be their last chance to finalise preparations and set their sights on the much-anticipated second Test of the NRMA Insurance Series.

In contrast, the Australian squad, currently engaged in a match in Perth, will follow a different path. The team will take a brief hiatus, dispersing to their respective home cities for a much-needed break. They are slated to regroup in Melbourne on Friday and Saturday, mirroring their counterparts in their final preparations for the upcoming Test.

The stage is set for a compelling showdown at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, starting on the 26th of December. The second Test of the NRMA Insurance Series promises to be a gripping contest, showcasing the best of international cricket. The preparation phase, marked by open training sessions, practice matches, and strategic planning, underscores the intensity and dedication of both teams as they gear up for this much-anticipated cricketing spectacle. This match is not just a game; it’s a celebration of the sport, bringing together fans, players, and nations in a display of skill, strategy, and sportsmanship.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
