In a resplendent display of cultural inclusivity, the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha proudly hosted the Diwali and Annakut celebration at the Queensland Parliament on 29 November 2023. The event, a beacon of communal harmony, drew an esteemed audience, including Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Speaker Curtis Pitt, Treasurer Cameron Dick, Health Minister Shannon Fentiman, Education Minister Grace Grace, Multicultural Affairs Minister Linard, Opposition Leader David Crisafulli, Hon Consul of India, Brisbane Mrs. Archana Singh, Qld Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll, and prominent Indian community leaders.

The celebration unfolded with speeches from key figures, emphasising the importance of cultural unity, multiculturalism, and community collaboration. Premier Palaszczuk and David Crisafulli highlighted the imperative nature of shared values, echoing the intrinsic value of multiculturalism, which lies at the heart of Queensland’s diverse community.

The evening was enriched with the voices of children and youthful volunteers reciting Sanskrit verses and prayers advocating for global peace and harmony, a poignant reminder of Diwali’s deeper spiritual values. With an assembly of 100 honoured guests, the celebration symbolised the victory of light, goodness, and knowledge over darkness. The Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam theme, portraying the world as one family, took center stage, emphasising the interconnectedness of all humanity.

An interactive “Gratitude Board” added a unique touch to the event, encouraging attendees to express their understanding of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. This thoughtful activity fostered reflection and unity, bringing together individuals from various backgrounds and fostering a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity.

The success of the event not only marked the commemoration of Diwali and Annakut but also served as a powerful platform for cultural exchange, spiritual enlightenment, and communal harmony within the walls of Queensland’s Parliament. The BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha’s initiative showcased the vibrant tapestry of Queensland’s multicultural landscape, where unity, understanding, and celebration coalesce to create a stronger and more harmonious community.
