Melbourne is set to embrace the festive season in a grand style this November with the unveiling of an extraordinary Christmas Tree at QV Melbourne’s open-air square. Felipe Reynolds, a globally acclaimed public art maker known for his work in ‘King Kong the Musical’ and ‘How to Train your Dragon-Arena Spectacular’, has designed the ‘airgineered’ QV Christmas Tree of Wonder. Towering at an impressive 21.5 metres, it claims the title of one of Australia’s tallest Christmas trees. Adorned with over 15,000 twinkling lights, this tree promises to be a beacon of festivity, lighting up the cityscape.

Reflecting Melbourne’s unique character, the tree will be decorated with bespoke elements like a skateboarding fairy penguin, a winged AFL football, and a Formula 1 race car, among others. Each ornament, ranging from the iconic Flinders St Station to whimsical designer sneaker stockings, tells a story of the city’s vibrant culture. A tramway spiralling around the tree up to a Golden Winged Treetop Star adds a touch of local charm.

Felipe Reynolds, the creative mind behind this project, has a rich history of producing stunning public art installations. His work includes various sculptures for artist Lisa Roet and significant contributions to theatrical productions. The tree, crafted in Reynolds’ Williamstown studio, features native Victorian Christmas bush foliage and angel wings, all animating gracefully in the wind.

This festive installation is not just about visual splendour. An immersive photo experience awaits visitors directly beneath the tree in the centre of QV Square. Open daily from 10am to 10pm from 23 November until the end of December, this attraction will also feature Melbourne DJs playing live music every weekend.

Arabella Richards, QV Melbourne’s Senior Centre Manager, expressed excitement about the tree becoming a new city icon, emphasising the role of visitors in defining its significance.

Coinciding with the tree’s launch, QV Melbourne is introducing the QV Prize Parcel Point on Black Friday. Shoppers have the opportunity to win a share in over $17,000 worth of QV Gift Cards. The centre’s summer twilight trading hours will commence on 20 November, extending through to the end of February.

Adding to the festive spirit, QV’s No Vacancy Gallery will host the NEVER EVER ENDING exhibition from 11-17 December, featuring the artist duo Creature Creature. The gallery will also offer interactive sessions, including live painting and a workshop for creating printed t-shirts.

QV Melbourne, known for its eclectic mix of food, fashion, and entertainment, continues to evolve. Recent openings include Carhartt Work In Progress, Anine Bing, Incu’s new national flagship store, and the legendary gelato brand 7 Apples.

This holiday season, the QV Christmas Tree of Wonder is set to be a dazzling centrepiece in Melbourne, inviting residents and visitors alike to immerse themselves in a truly Melburnian festive experience.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
