Queensland organisations have a chance to secure over $800,000 to foster inclusivity and unity through the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program. This initiative aims to promote cultural festivals and events that embrace the state’s rich multicultural identity while ensuring access for all Queenslanders.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Leanne Linard, expressed her enthusiasm for these events, stating, “Multicultural festivals and cultural events are a great way to bring all Queenslanders together to celebrate and showcase our rich cultural diversity.” Linard emphasised the importance of participation and support from communities across the state, encouraging involvement in these cultural celebrations.

With over 100 events and festivals funded in 2023, such as the Brisbane Fiesta Latina and the Gladstone Region Multicultural Festival Day, the program has already made a significant impact. This year’s grants will empower organisations to highlight and preserve their cultural heritage, fostering social and economic inclusion within their communities.

Reflecting on Queensland’s remarkable cultural and religious diversity, Linard stated, “Our Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program funding will allow organisations to not just show off what they most cherish about their culture, but it will also allow them to empower their communities to build better social and economic inclusion—and that’s exactly what our government wants to see.”

The funding round for 2024 events closes at midnight on 13 July, and the announcement of funding outcomes is expected by 31 October. Interested organisations can find more information about the program and application process at www.cyjma.qld.gov.au/cmq-program.

Queensland is proud of its multicultural heritage and hopes that through these festivals and events, people from all walks of life can come together, appreciating and embracing the diversity that makes the state truly unique. Let’s celebrate unity and inclusivity in the Sunshine State!
