Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is extending a warm welcome to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is here as a guest of the Australian Government.

Modi’s three-day (May 22-24) visit serves as a continuation of the momentum established during the Australia-India Annual Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi in March, as well as the discussions held at the G7 Summit and Quad Leaders’ meeting in Hiroshima over the weekend.

An essential highlight of the visit will be a community event in Sydney, where the Prime Ministers will join in celebrating Australia’s vibrant and diverse Indian diaspora. Approximately 20,000 individuals, primarily from the Indian diaspora, are anticipated to fill Qudos Arena at Sydney Olympic Park tomorrow, to attend his rally.

The bilateral meeting between the leaders will address several crucial aspects, primarily focusing on trade and investment. Efforts to enhance trade between the two countries through a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement will be deliberated upon, an official press release from Albanese said.

Additionally, discussions will encompass the strengthening of people-to-people links, renewable energy initiatives, and defence and security cooperation.

To foster Australia’s growing trade and investment relationship with India, Modi will engage with Australian business leaders. Building upon the opportunities presented at the Australia-India CEO Forum held in Mumbai earlier in March, the meetings aim to explore avenues for mutual growth and prosperity.

Notably, this visit by Modi marks his second visit to Australia, with his previous visit occurring in 2014.

Looking ahead, Albanese eagerly anticipates his visit to India in September for the G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi. This prestigious summit acts as a premier platform for global economic cooperation, reflecting the significance placed on strengthening ties between the two nations.

The visit by Prime Minister Modi symbolises the commitment of both nations towards deepening bilateral relations, fostering economic growth, and promoting cultural exchanges.
