At 11, Indian origin Sienna Katelyn has just become the youngest ever Grand finalist on popular show Australia’s Got Talent (AGT). She is set to appear at the finals later this month.

The Werribee girl with a passion for singing started her AGT journey with a video submission, which got her to a Judge’s audition on 9 October aired on 16 October on Channel 7 and 7 Plus..

Katelyn performed If I ain’t got you by Alicia Keys which she dedicated to her family.  She did her audition with her dad Mario on the guitar and received a standing ovation from both the audience and the judges comprising David Walliams, Kate Ritchie, Alesha Dixon and Shane Jacobson.

Jacobson thought just being herself is going to be more than enough for this young singing sensation. “You be Sienna and see where it takes you,” he said.

Ritchie and Dixon both called her audition “incredible and beautiful” and said Katelyn had a maturity in her voice “for such a little angel”.

Walliams said, “You have a really beautiful voice and when you took the mic off the stand and strutted around, you really were like a pop star.  I adored it, I adored you and I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do next.”

Shedding “happy tears”, Katelyn received a 1,004 yeses!” and clinched her spot at the semi-finals.

At the semi-finals audition on 10 October which was aired on 6 November, Katelyn sang Mariah Carey’s Vision of Love, which easily won her a place in the finals – and becoming the youngest contestant. The video has already garnered more than 100,000 views.

The AGT runs into three episodes starting with the audition, followed by the semi-finals and finals.

Proud mother Diana Desmier said, “There were many acts that auditioned so this process was over a number of episodes, followed by two episodes x semi finals (eight contestants in each, so a total of 16 semi-finalists) and one episode x Grand Finals, which will feature the top six. This year, talent from all around the world was invited to audition.”

For the grand finals, Katelyn said she is going to give it her all and sing a very special song that speaks of her journey as a singer.

Born to an Anglo-Indian family who migrated from Chennai in India, she comes from a musically inclined family. “My husband’s entire family is musically inclined. Everyone plays some instrument or the other, everyone loves singing and at the end of every party there is always someone who comes out with a guitar. That is very much a part of our culture,” said Desmier.

Katelyn started singing from the age of six. In 2020, she came out with her first original song ‘CRY’.  The song is available on all major streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and Google Play.

Like most kids her age, she aspires to be a pop star like Ariana Grande one day!
