The Australian medical regulator has provisionally approved an Omicron specific vaccine for third and fourth doses.

The vaccine, produced by Moderna, is the first variant specific dose to receive approval from the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

The federal government has ordered supplies of the vaccine in preparation for full approval from the TGA, which are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.

The TGA provisional approval is for use as a booster dose in adults aged 18 years and above, with Australia now the third country to approve it for use.

More Priority Primary Care Services

The Victorian government has announced an expansion of urgent care services across the state.

The expansion is in partnership with New South Wales, with both states set to establish a further twenty-five services each.

The services will work with GPs and provide urgent care for those not in a critical condition, easing pressure on struggling hospitals and emergency departments.

The service providers will be equipped to handle a number of conditions, including fractures, mild infection and burns.

The services will run extended operating hours and be free of charge, even for those without a Medicare card.
