Sangsang Univ Offering Career Development Programs and Environmental Volunteering Opportunities

First, KT&G Sangsang Univ is offering off-line career development programs and vocational trainings since April at the ‘Univ Zone’, a space Sangsang Univ built in Jakarta State University for college students. KT&G Sangsang Univ opened up the ‘Univ Zone’ at Jakarta State University on April 1st. ‘Univ Zone’ was established in the floor area of approximately 90㎡, nearby the College of Engineering Building. The venue can accommodate about 50 people at the same time.

KT&G Sangsang Univ ran an intensive four-day career development program, ‘Career School Season 2’ for about 100 college students from April 11st at the ‘Univ Zone’. Job interview practices, resume drafting, and mentoring from various professionals were included in the program. Sangsang Univ plans to continue helping the Indonesian youths with their career development by offering them various job trainings.

Sangsang Univ is also arranging environmental volunteering opportunities for the Indonesian youths, under the program title ‘Sangsang Sharing’. On March 20th, 11 college students who are members of KT&G Sangsang Univ engaged in Ciliwung River clean-up volunteering activity.

Revitalization of ‘KT&G Indonesia Vocational Training Center’…Teaching sewing techniques to the underprivileged

The vocational training center located in the Universitas Kristen Cipta Wacana (UKCW) are also in vigorous operation. Last March, KT&G newly established the ‘KT&G Indonesia Vocational Training Center’ in UKCW, Malang and began technical training, free of charge.

The center mostly offers sewing training for the impoverished or fostered teenagers in the local community.

COVID-19 has caused a large-scale unemployment and increase in poverty. KT&G is operating the vocational center to help those in need gain technical skills without financial burdens and begin a career in the industry to build a foundation for financial independence.

In line with the movement towards returning to normal life, there is a growing interest for the vocational center. The number of applicants for participating in this year’s vocational training adds up to nearly 500, which shows the popularity among the local community. Participants are learning various sewing techniques and also producing masks and resource kits to help with the COVID situation.

The participants of the sewing training program are displaying high level of satisfaction. One of the participants mentioned, “Even though it is free of charge, it offers a highly professional education, and I was able to learn practical techniques. It helped me get a new job.” Another participant said, “I opened a new clothing repair shop after finishing training.”

An official at KT&G said, “We are actively helping Indonesian youths and job seekers to increase their career potential through Sangsang Univ and Vocational Training Center.” He went on to say, “We will continue to develop and offer training programs for the Indonesian youths.”
