Explore Falls Creek, the best winter playground Australia has to offer

When I was at school, my girlfriend and her family went to Falls Creek every year. After the school holidays finished, she’d come back to school with a suntan. Back then, I couldn’t understand how you could get a suntan at the snow.

Falls Creek is one of the most beautiful winter playgrounds in Australia and the perfect place to learn to ski or snowboard. With over 450 hectares of ski-able terrain, there’s a suitable run for every skier or snowboarder.

It’s easy to fall in love with Falls Creek with its wide trails with gentle slopes. Experience Australia’s longest beginner trail, 2.2 km Wombats Ramble, the perfect way to get your “snow legs”. Falls Creek gives you the time and space to progress at your own pace.

If you’re on snow for the first time, Falls Creek has beginner lessons and packages that will set you up with all the equipment and expert knowledge you need. Just like Hotham their instructors are from all over the world. They’re ready and eager to teach you how to ski/snowboard, and orientate you around the mountain. Find your favourite ski run, take in the beauty whilst skiing down the slope, delight in a sense of achievement in making it to the bottom, (without taking a tumble).

It’s hard to explain this feeling, but it’s hard to drop the skiing habit.

With dedicated children’s and adults programs, you’ll be skiing or snowboarding around the entire mountain in no time.

Falls Creek offer programs for everyone!

Children’s programs

– The Renault Snowclub program is designed for children aged 3 -6 years old. It’s a great starting point for the kid’s first skiing experience or for those kids who just want to improve, before taking off on their own.

Professional caring staff and a fun-filled atmosphere – kids enjoy a day of tuition, fun, games, surprise visits from Pete the Snow Dragon and a fully catered lunch.

– Older kids can join the Junior Workshop program for kids aged 6-13 years, offering a full day of adventure on skis or snowboard.

– The Teen Academy is designed specifically for kids aged 13-17 years and keeps teenagers engaged and enjoying skiing and snowboarding with kids their own age.

Adult programs

Once you’ve dropped the kids off at Snowsports School, you can head to your own lesson in our exceptional adult classes. Group programs are great fun and the best way to meet new people while skiing. Your instructor will have you cruising the best runs for your ability, taking advantage of the Snowsports School express lift line ensuring as much practice time as possible.

Beginner programs

The Learn to Ski & Snowboard Programs are ideal for people who are new to skiing and snowboarding. The programs offer a 2½ hour lesson daily plus a Lift Pass that opens up to more terrain the longer you stay to allow you to progress onto more challenging runs.

Day 1-2: Access Falls Creeks beginner lifts combined with a 2½ hour group program (morning option) OR a 1½ hour Super Session (afternoon option).

Day 3-5: Access to all lifts & terrain combined with a 2½ hour group program (morning option) OR a 1½ hour Super Session (afternoon option).

Rent your equipment

Falls Creek Sports has all your rental equipment needs covered. They can fit you out with some of the best gear on the mountain. Their equipment is constantly updated and Falls Creek Sports is the biggest rental network on the mountain with four convenient locations around the village.

At the end of the day, store your skis or snowboard overnight with our Ski Valet and swap your ride boots for comfy après snow-boots to walk home in. Ski Valet is free when you rent with Falls Creek Sports.

Around the village

Spend your days exploring the mountain and learning to ski with expert instructors. Then, at night, discover the snow-covered village with a new bar or restaurant around every corner. During Winter, Falls Creek’s village is blanketed in snow, turning the roads into ski runs. Ski from your door to the chair lift each morning, and back home at the end of the day. Spend the evenings wandering through the European-style village and discover the great dining and night life in Falls Creek – with over 30 bars and restaurants, there’s something for everyone.

Gather in the Village Bowl every Thursday night during July and August to watch the Night Show Spectacular with ski and snowboard demonstrations under lights, a guest appearance from Pete the Snow Dragon and a fireworks finale! This free event is a family favourite and not to be missed.

There are plenty of other activities on offer in Falls Creek after a day of skiing. Head to the Snow Tube Park and slide down snow on a tube, take a Snowmobile Tour where you can drive the snowmobile yourself and see some of Australia’s most spectacular mountain views, or hire a Toboggan and head out to the toboggan slope at Windy Corner.

If you’re not done skiing or snowboarding at the end of the day, then Night Skiing is for you. Every Wednesday and Saturday night, Wombats Ramble, Australia’s longest beginner run, is lit up for guests to continue skiing or snowboarding into the night.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution.
