Savish, creator of a new Melbourne-based label of the same name, is fast gaining popularity as the only exclusive Sri Lankan-Australian traditional and modern designer bridal wear label in the country. “I endeavour to provide a platform for the creation of modernistic Sri Lankan bridal wear with an ‘East meets West’ look that appeals to today’s generation,” says Savish.
Savish’s simple and elegant designs that retain the traditions of Sri Lankan outfits are popular with Australian-born Sri Lankan brides. “Dilkie Perera, the director of Savísh Corporation, and I, the designer, will be collaboratively presenting an exclusive Sri Lankan Bridal section at the FOSAI show,” says Savish, and adds that the Corporation has been the organiser of the Miss Sri Lanka Australia pageant and co-organiser of the South Bridal Show together with Nowman Kareem since 2013.
Savish specialises in custom-made Kandiyan (traditional or modern design) for bridal sarees, bridesmaids and the mother/mother in law of the bride. “We stock an exclusive range of bridal and bridesmaids sarees which are available for purchase or hire. Outfits are also custom-made for other Sri Lankan styles and events,” says Savish.
At Savish, the staff also helps complement bridal wear with traditional and modern imported designer jewellery. “Our most popular jewellery sets for hire are the Kandiyan ones,” says Savish.
Savish also stocks a range of traditional Sri Lankan groomswear (Mul Anduma/Nilame Suit) including Sri Lankan designers PV Jayaratne and Abhisheka Mandapaya, and is the sole Australian agent for Sri Lanka’s exclusive Abhisheka Mandapaya groomswear. “We aim to provide a complete look for weddings and have extended wedding services because of enquiries to include poruwa (mandap), hair styling and make-up, wedding flora including bouquets and hair dressing, bridal invitations and cake boxes, wedding cake and décor,” says Savish.
