The Friends of Shiromani Akali Dal Australia was formed recently, under the guidance of S Rajinder Singh Marwaha (Director, Trade of Punjab), Rajan Chopra and Eshwar Lakavathu (directors of St Peter Institute in Melbourne) in a meeting attended by community leaders and NRIs from Punjab.

Marwaha, along with Chopra, also launched the official Facebook page of the organisation with the aim to provide information of developments by the Punjab government and detail the support provided to Punjabi NRIs from all over the world.

He briefed everyone on the history of Akali Dal and the sacrifices made by Punjab Chief Minister S Parkassh Singh Badal.

Marwaha highlighted the ongoing efforts of SAD under the leadership of CM Badal. Marwaha focused on the achievements of Punjab government especially in terms of NRIs – the special cells to look after their complaints for instance and the fast track courts.

Akali Dal has plans to focus on skill development and is in the process of running international skill courses in partnership with reputed institutes from Australia and other countries. This would be a great advantage for students who will get opportunities to study international skill courses in Punjab.

Chopra concluded the meeting by stating that there are a lot of supporters of SAD in Australia and efforts will be made to bring them all under one umbrella.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.
