Parramatta has a new young leader to celebrate. Macarthur Girls High School student Shruthi has been named one of only 25 students nationwide to receive the Australian Olympic Changemaker Award, a program run by the Australian Olympic Committee to recognise teenagers who embody the values of friendship, respect, and the pursuit of excellence through sport.
Andrew Charlton MP, the federal member for Parramatta shared the news: “We are so proud of Parramatta local and Macarthur Girls High School student Shruthi, who is one of only 25 students in the country to win the Australian Olympic Changemaker Award. The Award is given to students who embody Olympic values and demonstrate outstanding initiative and leadership within their school communities What an incredible achievement! Young people like Shruthi are leaders of the future. Congratulations.”
The national program gathers students from across Australia who use sport to inspire healthier choices, build social connections, or take on challenges that matter in their communities. Schools can put forward two students each year, and all nominees are invited to forums where they meet Olympians and share ideas with other young leaders. From those forums, a smaller group is chosen to attend the National Summit in Canberra, where they work with athletes and contribute directly to the Olympic Committee’s youth programs. Shruthi’s selection places her among a group of emerging leaders shaping the future of sport and community engagement.

Dear Reader,The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.
Thank you for your support.
