Victorian early childhood teachers and educators will now have access to a new suite of professional development resources, with the Allan Labor Government launching a central hub to support kinder staff across the state.

Minister for Children Lizzie Blandthorn announced the Kindergarten Teaching Excellence Approach, which is aimed at helping educators deliver high-quality teaching and care in kindergarten and Pre-Prep programs. At the centre of the initiative is the Early Childhood Hub, a one-stop online platform offering free resources for all staff in Victorian funded kindergartens.

According to the Government, the resources are designed to give educators the tools to expand subject knowledge, build meaningful interactions, and strengthen play-based learning. The hub also focuses on supporting teachers to better understand each child’s strengths and developmental needs.

Teaching Excellence is part of the Labor Government’s wider Best Start, Best Life reforms, a $14 billion program that is expanding kinder hours, building more centres, and providing Free Kinder that is expected to save families up to $2,600 each year. The reforms include the rollout of 15 hours of three-year-old kindergarten each week by 2029, and up to 30 hours of Pre-Prep each week by 2036.

The Government has emphasised that professional development is essential as kinder programs increase from 600 hours in the year before school to 1,800 hours across two years before school.

Minister Blandthorn said the new approach would directly benefit both teachers and children. “We’re backing our early childhood workforce with practical resources that make a real difference in giving every child the best start to their education,” she said.

She added that the new hub would help with both retention and development in the sector. “The Early Childhood Hub gives early childhood teachers and educators easy access to high-quality professional learning and resources that will help retain and upskill the workforce.”

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.
