South Australia Police have confirmed they are investigating the assault of a 22-year-old man on Kintore Avenue in Adelaide’s CBD on Saturday night, after community reports suggested the attack may have been racially motivated.

In a statement to The Indian Sun, a police spokesperson said, “Just before 9.30pm police were called to Kintore Avenue after reports a man had been assaulted by a group of men not known to him.”

“When police arrived they located the 22-year-old victim on the floor with facial injuries. He was taken to hospital for the treatment of his injuries. Investigations are continuing.”

The Indian Sun understands the victim is Charanpreet Singh, an international student who was reportedly out with his wife when the incident occurred. According to witness accounts provided on the night, Singh had been parking his car when a group of five men allegedly exited another vehicle and attacked him with what appeared to be metal knuckles.

Footage sent to The Indian Sun shows a brief and chaotic scene moments after the incident. Singh was later transported by ambulance to Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Friends of the victim claim the attackers used a racial slur during the assault, telling him to “F*** off Indian” before fleeing. While police have not confirmed whether the incident is being treated as racially motivated, the allegation has raised concerns among members of Adelaide’s South Asian student community.

Multiple witnesses at the scene reportedly gave statements in support of Singh, with some expressing frustration that no immediate arrests were made. Singh was advised by attending officers to provide a more detailed statement once he felt able to do so.
