Hobart has taken a thrilling turn this year by stepping into the Supercars spotlight with a vibrant street party that has revved up the city’s excitement levels. For the first time, five Gen3 Supercars roared through the streets, offering a taste of the high-octane action that will follow at Symmons Plains.
The 2024 NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint has brought motorsport fans together at Prince’s Wharf No. 1, where the forecourt buzzed with energy. The street party featured driver signing sessions, engaging Q&As, fun activities for kids, highlight reels broadcast on big screens, and an impressive transporter display. It was a motorsport lover’s dream come true, blending the thrill of racing with family-friendly entertainment.
This year’s racing agenda includes the Repco Supercars Championship, the Porsche Sprint Challenge Australia, Formula Ford, and returning favourites like Aussie Racing Cars and Tassie Tin Tops. The lineup promises a diverse array of racing thrills, catering to fans of all stripes.
Nic Street, Minister for Sport and Events, highlighted the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to supporting Supercars, revealing that over $5.6 million has been invested from 2019 to 2024 to ensure the success of the event in Tasmania. An additional $1.75 million was allocated to Motorsports Tasmania for essential safety and amenity upgrades at the Symmons Plains Raceway.
“The financial support underscores our dedication to fostering major sporting events in our state,” Street remarked. “Hosting such a significant event not only brings economic benefits but also enriches the social fabric of Tasmania by attracting visitors from across Australia and beyond.”
The anticipated influx of over 6,000 interstate and international visitors, who are expected to stay an average of six nights, highlights the economic boost that the event will bring to Tasmania. The benefits extend beyond mere numbers, as the SuperSprint enhances local tourism and provides an opportunity for Tasmanians to experience world-class racing right in their backyard.
The event aligns with the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, which aims to position the state as an exceptional place to live, work, and enjoy life. For motorsport enthusiasts, the 2024 NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint is not just a highlight of the year but a testament to the state’s vibrant sporting culture and its dedication to hosting top-tier events.
The racing action will hit Symmons Plains from Friday, 16 August to Sunday, 18 August 2024, promising a weekend filled with excitement and high-speed drama. As Hobart embraces its moment in the Supercars spotlight, the event stands as a symbol of Tasmania’s growing reputation as a premier destination for motorsport and major events.
