The International Centre of Non-Violence (ICON Australia), which was launched on 27 February 2013 at the Parliament House of New South Wales by Dr Ela Gandi, the granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi and renowned international peace activist, is reportedly in discussions with the New South Wales police on a project to take the message of non-violence to jail inmates here. Speaking to The Indian Sun, the founding head of ICON Australia Gambhir Watts says the program is likely to get the go-ahead in the next two months.
Watts has been active in promoting Indian culture and ideas in Australia for quite some time. He is well known for the work he does through Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Australia. The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Holi Mahotsav in Darling Harbour is a bit attraction for people from all communities in Sydney. Apart from the Holi Mahotsav, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan holds an inter-faith prayer meeting at the Parliament House in Sydney every January 30th. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan organizes several other events and activities to promote its ideas and values.
