Young people of Indian origin living in Western Australia and the Northern Territory are being invited to apply for the 89th edition of the Know India Programme, which will take place in India from 15 to 29 September 2026.
The Consulate General of India in Perth has opened applications for the programme, which is aimed at young people aged 18 to 23 and is being offered under the Scholars and Innovators edition of the Know India Programme.
The initiative is run by India’s Ministry of External Affairs and is designed to give young members of the Indian diaspora an opportunity to learn more about the country, including its culture, heritage and contemporary development. The programme has been used by the Indian government as part of its wider engagement with young people of Indian origin living overseas.
Applicants from Western Australia and the Northern Territory who are of Indian origin can seek further information and application details from the Consulate General of India in Perth.
According to the Consulate’s written notice, applications must be submitted by 25 August 2026. Applicants have been asked to contact the Consulate by email at hoc.perth@mea.gov.in for the application form and further information.
The programme is scheduled to run for two weeks, from 15 September to 29 September, giving selected participants the opportunity to engage with India beyond family and community connections abroad.
The Know India Programme has been conducted in multiple editions over the years, with previous programmes covering areas including India’s cultural heritage, contemporary society and development. Official information on earlier editions describes KIP as a programme intended to familiarise young people of Indian origin with their ancestral country and provide an understanding of present-day India.
The latest edition is particularly aimed at scholars and innovators, although the notice does not provide further details on the selection process or the specific activities planned for the September programme.
Young people interested in applying are advised to contact the Consulate as soon as possible, given the approaching deadline. Applicants should also confirm the current deadline and eligibility requirements directly with the Consulate when requesting the application form.
The programme comes as Indian diplomatic missions continue to use initiatives such as KIP to maintain engagement with younger members of the overseas Indian community. The Consulate General of India in Perth covers Western Australia and the Northern Territory and has previously promoted the Know India Programme among members of the local diaspora.
