Parramatta residents are being asked to nominate volunteers, community leaders and local organisations for the city’s 2027 Citizen of the Year Awards, with entries open until the end of October.
The annual awards form part of the City of Parramatta’s Australia Day program and recognise individuals, organisations and community groups for their contribution to the local community.
Achievements across community service, sport, education, business, arts and culture, environmental care, leadership and volunteering are among those eligible for recognition.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Martin Zaiter said the awards provided a chance to recognise people whose work often took place away from public attention.
“There are people across Parramatta giving their time, supporting others and helping our community thrive, and these awards are our chance to celebrate them and say thank you,” Cr Zaiter said.
“We know there are incredible stories in every corner of our City so whether it’s a volunteer, mentor, coach, neighbour or community group, I encourage residents to put their local heroes’ names forward.
“It’s a unique opportunity to learn about the inspiring work happening across Parramatta and help acknowledge those making a real impact.”
Nominations close at 5pm on Friday, 30 October, with judging scheduled for December. Award recipients will be announced at the 2027 Citizen of the Year Awards ceremony on Monday, 25 January.
Residents will also be able to apply to take part in the judging process, with expressions of interest for positions on the awards panel opening on September 14 and closing on 26 October.
