Nominations have opened for the 2027 NSW Multicultural Community Medals and Honour Roll, with the state government inviting the public to recognise individuals and organisations contributing to community life across New South Wales.
The awards recognise achievements in areas including community leadership, volunteering, advocacy, service delivery and projects that encourage inclusion, belonging and stronger connections between cultural groups. The Honour Roll provides posthumous recognition for leaders from diverse backgrounds whose work has had a lasting impact.
Recipients across 13 medal categories, along with Honour Roll inductees, will be announced at the 2027 Premier’s Harmony Dinner, the annual event celebrating multicultural communities across the state.
The categories cover a broad range of contributions, from long term community service and interpreting and translation to youth support, regional community building, sport and multicultural media.
Among the awards are the Lifetime Community Service Medal for people with 30 years or more of service within a migrant community, the Regional Unity Medal for contributions to the social, cultural and economic wellbeing of regional communities, and media awards recognising excellence in multicultural journalism and publishing.
Nominations close on 20 September.
NSW Minister for Multiculturalism Steve Kamper said the awards recognise people whose work often happens away from the spotlight.
He said the medals celebrate community leaders, volunteers and organisations whose efforts help create a more inclusive and connected NSW.
Kamper encouraged people to nominate individuals supporting newly arrived communities, helping overcome language barriers or bringing people together through activities such as sport.
Multicultural NSW Acting Chief Executive James Jegasothy said the awards continue to highlight people working tirelessly for their communities.
He said many deserving nominees are people whose dedication is not widely recognised, despite the impact of their work.
Gargi Ganguly, who received the 2026 Regional Unity Medal, said the award highlighted the importance of community work in regional Australia.
She said recognition helps draw attention to the many people who quietly support families, mentor young people, create opportunities and strengthen community connections.
