Australia A will tour India in September with a 15-player squad featuring a blend of emerging talent and returning internationals as players push their claims for higher honours.
The month-long tour includes three Twenty20 matches in New Chandigarh, three one-day games in Mohali and a four-day match in Dharamshala, providing players with the opportunity to experience Indian conditions across all three formats.
Wicketkeeper Nicole Faltum will captain the T20 side, while Tahlia Wilson takes charge of the 50-over squad. Rachel Trenaman has been appointed captain for the four-day match.
Fast bowlers Darcie Brown and Tayla Vlaeminck return to the Australia A set-up for the white-ball matches, adding international experience to a squad largely made up of players seeking to strengthen their credentials for senior national selection.
Australia assistant coach Gavan Twining will lead the tour as head coach, supported by Mick Delaney and Cameron Boyce.
National selector Shawn Flegler said the tour would give players valuable experience in conditions they are likely to encounter later in their careers.
“This tour presents the players with a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience in subcontinental conditions and test themselves against strong international opposition,” Flegler said.
He said early exposure to India would help prepare players for the demands of international cricket, adding: “Exposure to Indian conditions early in a player’s career is invaluable and those experiences provide an important foundation before they make the step up to international cricket.”
Flegler also welcomed the return of Brown and Vlaeminck, saying, “It’s great to have Tayla back in the green and gold and to have Darcie back in action. Both bring invaluable international experience to the group, and having them alongside some of our younger players provides a great opportunity for those emerging cricketers to learn from two world-class fast bowlers while continuing their own development.”
The squad includes Victorian pair Faltum, Tess Flintoff and Vlaeminck, South Australia’s Darcie Brown and Courtney Webb, New South Wales representatives Maitlan Brown, Anika Learoyd, Katie Mack, Frankie Nicklin and Wilson, Queensland’s Sianna Ginger and Charli Knott, Tasmania’s Hayley Silver-Holmes and Trenaman, and Western Australia’s Lilly Mills.
Australia A opens the tour with three T20 matches at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on September 12, 15 and 17. The teams then meet in three 50-over matches at the I. S. Bindra Punjab Cricket Stadium on 20, 23 and 25 September before concluding with a four-day match at Dharamshala’s Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium from 29 September to 2 October.
