Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will host Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Australia from 8 to 10 July, with the two leaders set to meet in Melbourne for the Australia-India Annual Leaders’ Summit.
The visit comes as Australia and India continue to expand cooperation across trade, defence, security and technology under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with both governments describing the relationship as increasingly important to regional stability and economic growth.
India is now the world’s fourth largest economy and one of its fastest growing, making it an increasingly important economic partner for Australia.
The summit will mark the latest meeting between the two leaders following their discussions on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg in November 2025.
Prime Minister Albanese said he looked forward to welcoming his Indian counterpart to Australia.
He said the relationship between the two countries had taken on growing importance in the Indo-Pacific.
“The Australia-India relationship has never been more consequential, and our partnership fosters peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.”

Albanese said the visit would provide an opportunity to build on existing cooperation between the two nations.

Australia and India have strengthened ties in recent years through closer engagement in defence, trade, education, clean energy, critical minerals and emerging technologies. The leaders’ summit is expected to continue discussions aimed at advancing cooperation across these areas while reinforcing the long-term strategic relationship between the two countries.
The visit is expected to attract close attention from Australia’s large Indian community, with Melbourne hosting the formal leaders’ meeting during Prime Minister Modi’s three-day stay.
