Victorian Opposition Leader Jess Wilson has visited Shree Swaminarayan Temple Boronia with members of the Victorian Shadow Cabinet, meeting temple leaders, committee members and volunteers in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
The visit was part of the Coalition’s outreach to multicultural and multifaith communities, with the delegation welcomed by Temple President and Trustee Deepak Raghvani, the temple committee and community volunteers.
Ms Wilson was joined by Evan Mulholland MP, Shadow Minister for Multicultural and Multifaith Affairs, Richard Welch MP, Shadow Minister for Industry, Manufacturing and Innovation, David Kitchen, Liberal Candidate for Bayswater, and Deirdre Diamante, Liberal Candidate for the North-Eastern Metropolitan Region.
Shree Swaminarayan Temple Boronia has been permanently established in Boronia since 2009 and was formally inaugurated in 2012. The temple operates under the Swaminarayan Sampraday lineage and is run entirely through seva, or selfless service, by volunteers.
The temple has become a spiritual, educational and cultural centre for Indian Australians and the Gujarati community in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. Its activities include community services, youth networks and Gujarati language classes aimed at helping second-generation Australian Indians maintain cultural and family connections.
For the Victorian Coalition, the visit placed attention on community organisations that support faith, language, volunteering and social connection across Melbourne. It also came in the context of local political engagement in Bayswater and surrounding eastern suburbs, where Indian Australian and multifaith communities have become an active part of civic life.
Temple volunteers play a central role in the day-to-day running of Shree Swaminarayan Temple Boronia, including religious programs, cultural education and community support. The visit gave Opposition MPs and Liberal candidates an opportunity to hear from local leaders about the temple’s work and its role in supporting families across the area.
The Coalition delegation said the visit reinforced its commitment to multicultural and multifaith communities in Victoria.
