People planning public transport journeys across regional South Australia will have access to more detailed travel information following updates to the Adelaide Metro website announced by the Malinauskas Government.
Regional bus route information has been added to the platform, allowing passengers to view services operating within and between regional communities alongside metropolitan transport connections.
The update means scheduled regional bus routes, ferry services and links to Adelaide’s metropolitan network can now be viewed through the Adelaide Metro website and third-party journey planning applications, including Google Maps.
About 150 regional bus routes and 1,500 bus stops have been incorporated into the system. The information includes standardised route numbers and stop names intended to make services easier for passengers to identify.
Government officials say the changes are designed to improve journey planning and help travellers better understand connections across the state’s transport network.
Regional timetables, fare information and service alerts will continue to be managed by individual operators and will remain available through their existing channels rather than the Adelaide Metro website.
The launch also provides an opportunity for regional communities to test the updated journey planning tools and offer feedback on the accuracy and usefulness of the information provided.
The latest additions build on Adelaide Metro’s existing Regional Services page, which already includes service summaries, an interactive regional transport map and access to real-time tracking information provided by regional transport operators.
The move comes as the South Australian Government continues work on its broader transport planning agenda. Findings from the Regional Public Transport Review are expected to contribute to a new Public Transport Strategy due later this year. The strategy is intended to guide the development of South Australia’s public transport network over the next three decades.
Public Transport Minister Joe Szakacs said public transport plays an important role in connecting people with employment, education, healthcare and essential services.
He said the addition of regional service information to the Adelaide Metro website would make it easier for South Australians to understand how different transport services connect and to plan their journeys with greater confidence.
While the changes do not alter service levels or timetables, transport advocates have long argued that access to clear and consistent information can help improve the passenger experience, particularly for those travelling across multiple regions or connecting with metropolitan services.
Feedback gathered during the rollout is expected to help inform future improvements as the state works towards a long-term transport strategy.
