Applications have opened for a new round of multicultural infrastructure funding, offering community organisations access to grants of up to $1.5 million for construction, upgrades and expansion of shared spaces.
The Modernised Multicultural Grants Program will fund projects that provide physical spaces where multicultural communities can come together and connect, with three funding tiers available based on project scale.
Amenity projects ranging from $20,000 to $100,000 are available for smaller upgrades, while small to medium infrastructure projects between $100,001 and $500,000 and large infrastructure projects between $500,001 and $1.5 million will support more extensive developments.
The program states that multicultural community organisations will be able to apply for funding for physical infrastructure to support multicultural communities to connect and commune in a designated physical environment.
Funded works will include construction, upgrades or extensions of facilities that demonstrate clear benefits for multicultural communities.
Applicants will be required to meet a detailed set of conditions before funding is finalised. These include providing regulatory or development approvals, evidence of experience in delivering similar projects or engaging a qualified third party, and confirmation of financial contributions from other sources.
Organisations must also submit a detailed project proposal outlining designs, timelines and procurement processes, along with a full budget supported by quotes and cost benefit analysis. A risk management plan and proof of ownership or permission to use the proposed site will also be required.
The program outlines priority areas for funding, including support for new and emerging communities and projects aimed at improving outcomes for women, gender diverse people and people with disability. Other multicultural community groups, including those in metropolitan areas, are also eligible to apply.
Applications will close at 4pm on Monday 18 May 2026, with further guidelines and supporting documents to be released as part of the application process.
