Hobart is set to host international ice hockey for the first time, with the Canada vs USA Ice Hockey Classic launching its 2026 Australian series at MyState Bank Arena this July.
The two games, scheduled for 3 and 4 July, will see more than 30 players travelling from North America, with full team line-ups to be confirmed closer to the event. Tickets go on presale from 7 April, followed by general public sales from 8 April via Ticketek.
Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events Jane Howlett said the series offers Tasmanians a chance to witness elite ice hockey in their own backyard. She added that the event also supports the visitor economy during the winter months and provides inspiration for young athletes across the state.
MyState Bank Arena will be transformed into a professional ice hockey venue for the games, highlighting Tasmania’s growing profile as a host for major sporting events. Organisers say the series aims to provide a high-quality spectator experience while introducing a new sport to the local community.
Fans can expect fast-paced action as Canada and the USA face off for the first time on Tasmanian ice, marking a milestone for both the sport and the state’s sporting calendar.

Support Independent Community Journalism
Dear Reader,The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.
We operate independently.
