Victorians are set to gain new opportunities in digital careers with the signing of the Victorian Digital Skills Compact at Chisholm TAFE in Frankston. Minister for Skills and TAFE, Gayle Tierney, joined industry representatives and education providers today to formalise a shared commitment to strengthen the state’s digital workforce.

The compact brings together government, training providers and industry to expand digital skills and build confidence across the workforce. The initiative targets groups including women, First Peoples, people with disability and regional Victorians, aiming to ensure a broad range of Australians are equipped for technology-driven jobs.

Industry partners will collaborate with TAFEs and adult education providers to enhance the digital and artificial intelligence capabilities of teachers and students. The move reflects the growing role of technology across sectors such as health, logistics, finance, manufacturing and the creative industries.

Estimates indicate Victoria will require an additional 87,700 digital workers by 2035, and employees across all fields will increasingly need digital skills to remain competitive. The Victorian Government has emphasised its commitment to preparing workers for the AI and technology roles of the future, with its AI Mission Statement highlighting responsible and ethical adoption of artificial intelligence to drive innovation and opportunity.

Chisholm TAFE is set to host a $30 million Digital, AI and Technology Centre of Excellence, funded by the Albanese and Allan Labor Governments. The centre is expected to provide hands-on training and resources that reflect the latest developments in technology and AI.

Minister Tierney said the compact was designed to support innovation, productivity and workforce readiness. She highlighted that collaboration with industry and the education sector was key to building a future-ready workforce.

Paul Edbrooke, Member for Frankston, welcomed the announcement, noting that the initiative would benefit both the local community and the wider region by ensuring that workers have the skills needed for emerging industries.

The Victorian Digital Skills Compact is now available for review , offering information on programs, partnerships and opportunities for participation.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
