Shakti Global marked its second anniversary on 22 February 2026 with a community gathering at the Robina Community Centre on the Gold Coast, bringing together local families, cultural groups and elected representatives.

The event reflected on the organisation’s growth over the past two years, from what organisers described as “a vision for preventive health and meaningful social connection” into an established platform for community engagement.

The anniversary recognised Shakti’s work in community health education, including dementia awareness sessions, cardiovascular health education, physiotherapy and muscle-strengthening programs, yoga sessions, and Social Connection and Wisdom Circle gatherings. Organisers said these initiatives have created safe spaces for learning and intergenerational support.

A central feature of the day was a mini retreat facilitated by the Art of Living team. Participants took part in chair yoga, guided meditation and breathwork exercises aimed at reducing stress and strengthening emotional resilience. The workshop reflected the group’s view that “true health encompasses mind, body and spirit”.

The celebration was attended by Consul General Ms Neetu Bhagotia, Assistant Multicultural Minister Mr Herman Vorster, Federal MP Angie Bell and Dr Shunil Sharma. Organisers acknowledged their encouragement and support, noting that their presence highlighted the role of preventive health initiatives within culturally diverse communities.

Cultural performances formed part of the programme. Students from Ishwaralaya Kalaikoodam, led by Srimati Manga Surendran, presented classical dance items. A musical performance by Miss Ayati Gor, featuring singing and guitar, followed.

Volunteers, sponsors and supporters were recognised during the event for their contributions to the organisation’s work. Organisers expressed gratitude to those who have supported Shakti Global since its establishment and to families who continue to participate in its activities.

As it enters its third year, the organisation reiterated its focus on preventive health, cultural connection and shared learning within the community.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
