Anew round of Queensland’s Play On! Sports Vouchers is set to open on 29 January, offering families a $200 voucher for each eligible child to help cover the cost of organised sport.
Under Round 2 of the program, families can apply for one voucher per child aged between five and 17. The funding can be used towards membership, registration or participation fees with registered sporting clubs across the state. The initiative is aimed at easing household pressures while encouraging children to stay active as the school year begins.
The Queensland Government has committed $62.5 million each year for four years to continue the scheme, framing the investment as part of a broader cost of living response. A portion of vouchers has been set aside for children living with a disability, as well as those in regional and rural areas, reflecting ongoing concerns about access to sport outside metropolitan centres.
Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said the start of the school year was a practical moment for families to consider organised sport, whether returning to familiar activities or trying something new. He acknowledged that rising expenses can influence decisions about extracurricular activities and said the program is designed to reduce that pressure for families and community clubs alike.
The government says the multi year funding commitment is intended to provide certainty for sporting organisations that rely on seasonal registrations, as well as for parents planning ahead. The program was previously scheduled to end, before the current government confirmed its continuation.
There are limits to eligibility. Children who received a voucher in Round 1 are not eligible to apply again in Round 2, and each child can only receive one voucher per financial year. Families are encouraged to check eligibility criteria carefully before applying.
