Victorian students are set to see improvements to their school facilities after the state government confirmed a new round of small-scale upgrades across 43 schools. The projects, funded through the Capital Works Fund, focus on practical refurbishments that improve day-to-day life on campus, including toilet renovations, playground works and better outdoor spaces.
Deputy Premier and Education Minister Ben Carroll said the funding reflects the government’s ongoing focus on creating safe, inclusive and welcoming school environments. He described the program as a way to support schools with upgrades that may be modest in scale but still have a clear impact on how students learn and move through their day.
The works vary from school to school. Campbellfield Heights Primary School will receive $499,433 to refurbish student toilets, with the upgrade aimed at improving hygiene and providing a more pleasant space for students. Jamieson Primary School, near Mansfield, will receive $49,652 to support the refurbishment of its oval, including the installation of new goal posts. Belmore School in Balwyn will receive $18,697 for a new bike and equipment shed.
Some of the funding is directed through the inclusion stream, which covers works that help schools better support students with disabilities or additional needs. This includes inclusive playgrounds and learning areas designed to encourage participation and social connection.
Fairhills High School in Ferntree Gully will receive $299,980 for an outdoor area designed for Year 7 and 8 students. The project includes a new courtyard, drinking taps and landscaping to make the space more accessible and more comfortable for students during breaks.
An additional $25 million for the Capital Works Fund was included in the Victorian Budget 2025/26, with $9.2 million of that dedicated to toilet upgrades across 21 schools. According to government figures, 122 schools have already received grants since 2024, supported by $50 million invested through the fund.
The broader school infrastructure program continues to be a major part of the government’s investment strategy. More than $18.5 billion has been committed to building new schools and upgrading existing ones, a pipeline that has supported thousands of jobs across construction and related sectors.
Mr Carroll said the government would keep funding upgrades that improve the daily experience of students and staff, stressing that well-maintained facilities play an important role in helping students feel comfortable, supported and ready to learn.
