The Sydney Sixers are gearing up for a packed day at North Sydney Oval, bringing community cricket, culture and WBBL action together for the final home match of their season. The club has confirmed that its Community Round and Cultural Festival will run alongside the match against the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday, 7 December, bringing families, junior clubs and supporters into the spotlight.

The day is set to recognise those who keep the grassroots game moving. Junior cricketers will take part in a ceremonial walk-in, volunteers will be acknowledged and families will be central to the atmosphere around the ground. The Sixers say the event is designed as a reminder that elite cricket draws strength from clubs and communities that nurture talent year after year.

This year’s round carries added meaning. The club is expanding its cultural engagement program and will use the match to launch a festival reflecting the city’s diverse fanbase, including Sydney’s growing South Asian community. The move comes ahead of Pakistani star Babar Azam joining the Sixers for the BBL season, bringing an extra layer of anticipation among supporters who have followed his rise across formats.

Sydney Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes said the day feels like the right way to close their home run before finals. “From grassroots to the elite level, our community is the foundation of who we are as cricketers. This round gives us a chance to honour the grassroots clubs and volunteers who give so much to the game, while also celebrating the rich cultural diversity that makes Sydney special. It’s also a great chance for our players to acknowledge and thank their own local cricket clubs and their pathway to the elite level. With Babar Azam joining the club this summer, it’s a perfect moment to embrace and engage with our South Asian fans and the wider multicultural Sixers’ community.”

Fans can expect more than cricket. A meet-and-greet competition with Babar Azam is among the drawcards, along with a post-match panel featuring Jafer Chohan, Lisa Sthalekar and other former players. For younger supporters, there will be craft stations, face painting and a chance to create personalised autograph bats ahead of the player signing session on the field. Music, food and giveaways round out the match-day experience, including a chance to win a signed Sixers jersey.

The Sixers say the day is about bringing together every layer of the game. WBBL action, junior club pride and cultural celebration will all be part of a long afternoon at one of Sydney’s most recognisable cricket grounds. With tickets for the Weber WBBL|11 season already on sale, the club is hoping the crowd reflects the reach of cricket across the city and the excitement building around its summer ahead.
