Robin Thomas Reserve in Parramatta has undergone a $2.5 million transformation, breathing new life into one of the city’s most central green spaces. The refurbished grounds now feature fresh turf, new goal posts, and a synthetic cricket wicket, alongside a revamped irrigation system and levelled field—all ready for community use as summer approaches.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the upgrade reflects Council’s vision to deliver modern, accessible open spaces for sport and recreation.

“Robin Thomas Reserve has served our community for many years, and we’re proud to deliver this project so sports teams, residents and visitors can continue to enjoy this recreational space,” Cr Zaiter said.

“It’s also a place for people to relax and unwind, and with a light rail stop and the ferry wharf nearby, it’s also very accessible.”

The reserve, listed on the State Heritage Register for its archaeological value linked to the Parramatta Sand Body Conservation Area and Military Barracks, has long been a landmark for the area’s sporting and social activity.

Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said the project shows the NSW Government’s ongoing commitment to investing in community sports infrastructure.

“Local sport infrastructure plays a critical role in bringing communities together and I look forward to seeing how the local community enjoys this improved space for years to come,” he said.

The upgrade has been jointly funded by the City of Parramatta and the NSW Government through the Office of Sport’s Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund program.

Further improvements are on the way, with construction underway on new amenities including an urban park, picnic tables, a barbeque area, landscaping, and a car park. These will be delivered by Transport for NSW in early 2026, adding another layer of amenity to Parramatta’s growing city centre.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution.
