Minister for Multicultural Affairs Anne Aly has extended her heartfelt wishes to Australia’s Sikh community on the occasion of Gurpurab, the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
“I sincerely wish Australia’s Sikh community a blessed Gurpurab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji,” Dr Aly said. “Guided by Guru Nanak’s eternal teachings of Naam Japo, Kirat Karo, and Vand Chhako, the Sikh community is known for its selfless service and compassion for all.”
Dr Aly said Guru Nanak’s timeless message of oneness, equality, and service continues to inspire millions around the world. “The Guru’s message of oneness, equality of all humanity, service to others, and moral courage continues to be a source of inspiration for millions around the world,” she said.
She highlighted the growing contribution of Sikh Australians, describing Sikhism as one of the nation’s fastest-growing faiths. “Sikhism is one of Australia’s fastest growing religions, playing a growing and respected role in Australian society,” Dr Aly said. “Guru Nanak’s values of equality and humanity are Australian values, and we can all be inspired by his words, life and message.”
Dr Aly concluded by encouraging the community to celebrate with joy and reflection. “As you gather with family and friends at the Gurdwara, hear the Guru’s words through Kirtan, and carry on his legacy of service and community through seva, you will join with the generations of Sikhs who preceded you, and in anticipation of the many around the world that will carry on that legacy Guru Nanak Dev Ji established,” she said.
“I trust that this auspicious day will nourish your spirits and enrich your lives. Happy Gurpurab.”
