South Australian engineers have introduced a new online tool designed to help businesses understand and adopt Artificial Intelligence in practical ways. The AI Roadmap Generator, created by the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML), offers a free and structured way for organisations to explore how AI can be integrated into their operations.

Developed under the State Government-funded Industrial AI program, the website allows users to enter details about their business and receive an individualised strategy. The generated plan outlines AI opportunities within their industry, evaluates readiness, builds a business case, and creates a roadmap for implementation.

The AIML engineering team says the tool was inspired by feedback from businesses that found it difficult to know where to begin with AI. Many understood the potential of the technology but lacked direction on how to move from interest to action. Engineering manager Jonathon Read said conversations with clients highlighted a recurring challenge. “After speaking with a number of customers about their stumbling blocks in adopting AI, a pattern emerged. They found it helpful when our engineers suggested specific ideas they could take back to their teams to validate. That’s where the idea for the AI Roadmap tool came from.”

The Industrial AI program itself was established to encourage innovation, improve productivity and create new skilled jobs across South Australia and beyond. While designed with local industry in mind, the AI Roadmap Generator is available nationwide, enabling any business with an internet connection to access the guidance.

Michael Brown said that South Australia’s growing digital economy continues to attract attention from across Australia. “Increasing numbers of local companies are using AI as a tool to streamline their processes and make them more efficient. This tool is yet another step towards preparing local businesses and organisations to use AI to their benefit.”

The Industrial AI initiative aims to give companies the tools they need to enhance safety, sustainability and profitability through smarter, data-driven decisions. As more organisations embrace digitalisation, tools like AIML’s Roadmap Generator are expected to help bridge the knowledge gap between curiosity and capability.
