Eat Street Northshore shimmered under a thousand lights as Brisbane came together for one of Australia’s biggest Diwali celebrations, drawing more than 5,000 people to the sold-out Grand Diwali Mela and Indian Street Market 2025. Organised by DesiKanGroove, founded by Tejas Mokal, the event turned the riverside precinct into a dazzling hub of culture, colour, and connection.
Guests including Parminder Singh, National President of the Indian Cultural Association of Queensland (ICAQ) and Founder of the Punjabi Cultural Association, ICAQ Secretary Ganesh Deshpande, Amit Deobhankar of Infinity Financials, and Pankaj Shinde and Disha Khilari of Owitechs joined organiser Tejas Mokal at the official opening. Their presence reflected the community spirit that defines the festival of lights.
The venue transformed into a glowing spectacle of decorations, traditional motifs, and lanterns, setting the stage for more than 50 live acts across two stages. From classical and folk performances to energetic modern dance and live music, the entertainment kept the atmosphere electric well into the night. Families made the most of the Kids Zone and OpenSky Stage, which featured face painting, henna, diya art, and games for younger revellers.
The Indian Street Market added to the festival’s flavour with stalls serving favourites such as chaats, dosas, and curries alongside sweet treats like mithai and falooda. Shoppers explored a range of handcrafted jewellery, traditional wear, perfumes, and artisanal goods, creating a vibrant market experience reminiscent of a festive bazaar back home.
Reflecting on the success, Tejas Mokal said, “Brisbane truly came alive for Diwali. Seeing 5,000 people celebrate together with so much love and energy was surreal. I’m beyond grateful to our performers, partners, and volunteers. This dream wouldn’t be possible without the incredible DesiKanGroove team.”
The evening ended with a high-energy DJ set and raffle prizes, rounding off a celebration that captured Diwali’s essence of joy and togetherness. From the glow of diyas to the sound of music carrying over the river, Diwali at Eat Street 2025 has set a bright new standard for Brisbane’s multicultural calendar—and the excitement for next year has already begun to build.
