The Tasmanian Government is inviting women to apply for five vacancies on the Tasmanian Women’s Council, offering an opportunity to influence policies and initiatives that affect women and girls across the state.

Minister for Women and the Prevention of Family Violence, Jane Howlett, said the council plays a vital role in supporting women and shaping Tasmania’s future. “This is about women supporting women and building a Tasmania where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive,” she said.

The council provides independent advice to the government and contributes to the Equal Means Equal: Tasmanian Women’s Strategy 2022-2027. Minister Howlett emphasised the importance of a diverse membership. “We want to hear from women of all walks of life because their voices and perspectives are essential. By working together, we can tackle the challenges, celebrate the successes, and ensure gender equality remains a priority as we move our state forward.”

Expressions of interest close at 11.59pm on 16 October. More information and application details are available on the Women in Tasmania website.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
