Cricket Australia has confirmed that public ticket allocations for the Melbourne T20 International between Australia and India are now exhausted, weeks ahead of the match.
The sell-out marks another strong indicator of public enthusiasm for this summer’s cricket calendar, with allocations for all 12 days of the Ashes series also gone. The Melbourne fixture, scheduled for Friday 31 October at the MCG, reached capacity more than three weeks before the first ball, highlighting the extraordinary demand for seats at one of the sport’s most anticipated contests.
AFL member tickets went on sale today, with MCC member tickets to follow tomorrow. Cricket Australia said ticket sales across the BKT Tyres Men’s ODI and T20I Series have already topped 175,000, leaving just over 30,000 tickets remaining for the eight-match line-up.
Public allocations for Sydney and Canberra matches are already sold out, while tickets for Adelaide and Brisbane are close to selling out, with fewer than 5,000 remaining for each.
Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg said the response from fans has been outstanding.
“The huge crowd anticipated for the Melbourne T20I is another strong indicator of the incredible interest in this series,” Greenberg said.
“We’re thrilled to see fans embracing the Australia v India contest with such passion, and we look forward to delivering a world-class experience both on and off the field.
“To have over 175,000 tickets sold with 13 days until the first ODI in Perth is a phenomenal result. It speaks volumes about the strength of the rivalry and the enthusiasm of fans across the country.”
Fans unable to attend in person can follow the action live on Kayo Sports and Foxtel, or through ball-by-ball radio coverage on ABC, Triple M, and SEN.
